We may be small in numbers, but NHPC is certainly big in heart! When the request went out to the congregation to supply the ingredients for a breakfast at Shepherd’s Way Relief Center (www.ourshepherdsway.org), the response was a quick and resounding: “No problem!”
Within an hour of the donation board going up, all of the requests were already taken care of. With all the ingredients we needed at our fingertips, a small group of volunteers were able to knock outthe food prep, inside of 90 minutes on Sunday afternoon, and by 8:30 am Monday, October 30, we were downtown at Shepherd’s way serving a hot , healthy meal with fruit and juice to 120 friends in need. In fact, we had enough food prepared to also offer ‘seconds’ to another 40 or so. No one left hungry, and there were many smiles shared. New Hanover also brought boxes and boxes of protein bars and other miscellaneous food items to help stock their food pantry, along with many bags of warm clothing.
Loving our neighbors as ourselves, serving those in need, and remembering that ALL are worthy – this is what we are called to do, and this is where true joy is found.
EVERY week at New Hanover, we are collecting food items for Shepherds Way Relief Center. Please make sure, if you are able,
to remember our friends when you make your weekly trip to the grocery store. It is an easy way to make a difference in this
community. We will be preparing a meal for this ministry on a quarterly basis.
Come. Join us!! You will not forget the experience! The next date of service will be announced soon—stay tuned for more details. For more information, please contact Margaret Elliott.
