Food for Thought Sunday (held on the first Sunday)

05 Aug 2018 | 09:30 am

We call the first Sunday of each month “Food for Thought” Sunday, because it is the designated service for collecting food items for local organizations that need food to help men, women, and children in need. The MCEF and SWRC donation boxes are in our Narthex.

Over 30 Mechanicsville churches, plus businesses and individuals, combine their mission resources through Mechanicsville Churches Emergency Functions (MCEF.) They know that together, we can do more to help our neighbors in need and we see evidence of God’s blessings being magnified upon our community. Their food pantry is in need of items: canned & boxed potatoes (all varieties), pork & beans, canned pasta, pancake mix, and syrup.

The Shepherd’s Way Relief Center (SWRC) is providing for our community’s impoverished in a number of ways, including through their Emergency Food Pantry.  They maintain a modest supply of canned and dry goods to give out to our neighbors in need.  Many of the people they help do not have the ability to cook, so the pantry is in need of ready-to-eat foods: peanut butter, Vienna sausages, instant soup bowls, canned ravioli, tuna, crackers, etc.  The featured need for August is peanut butter in small jars (not family size).
