Have you heard a farmer say “I planted 40 acres of corn, and nothing came up but soybeans!”
Yeah – me neither.
Something would have to go really, really wrong for this to happen. That is exactly the kind of frustration and chagrin Isaiah says God experiences in Isaiah 5:1-9. Isaiah says that God’s message is that, although God put in the choicest of wine grapes, only sour, good-for-nothing grapes can out of all the hard work and devotion. This Sunday, we will see how Isaiah’s prophecy, along with Jesus’ observations in Luke 12:49-59 about the nonsense of people doing things and ignoring consequences yields “A Harvest of Sour Grapes.”
