In talking about the value of faith and works, James the brother of Jesus says; “You believe that God is one? So what! Even the demons believe, and they
tremble.” (James 2:19) Today, believing in God seems hard enough – certainly, there are elements in the society that are absolutely hostile to religious faith of any type. But James knew that belief that didn’t grab you by the vitals and shake you up was no more than an intellectual assent, not the life-ordering faith we need to change us and then change the world.
This Sunday we will look at both Psalm 107 and Hosea 11:1-10. Through these passages, we will look at what transforming faith is, and how our understanding of God’s power and activity in the world can shape the kind of life we live.
