Failure To Thrive

Every parent is afraid to hear the words “failure to thrive” in relation to an infant. It means that something is wrong – nutrition isn’t being used properly in the body, growth isn’t happening… something just isn’t right so normal maturation can’t take place.

The Apostle Paul faced the exact same problem with the church in Corinth. The growth that should have been taking place – growth that would have made them more mature in their faith – wasn’t happening. Although being fed by the most significant teachers of the day, they still seemed stuck in their spiritual selves as infants. Instead of becoming able to care for themselves and then for others, they were still immature – failing to thrive as Christians and members of the Body of Christ.

This week, we will be looking at 1 Corinthians 3 and Matthew 5:21-32, considering together what it means to fail to thrive spiritually, and what can be done about it. Join us for worship at 9:30 a.m. this Sunday and then stay for our fellowship time after the service and then Sunday School at 10:45.
