Fulfilling an Ancient Promise

The Psalms are not only the prayerbook of the Bible, but they are also as full a catalog of human emotion (and of God’s steadfast love) as one can find anywhere in the Scriptures. This Advent and Christmas season New Hanover Presbyterian Church will approach the themes of the season through the Psalms. As we look at the Psalms, which were written for singing and chanting in worship by the Hebrew people, we will see in them the glimmers of hope, calling and fulfillment that caused people to look forward to the Birth of the Messiah for centuries. We will look at Luke 1:39-56 (Mary’s song of praise, called the Magnificat) and at Psalm 97.
