It is a common trait in human nature… to make “we” into “Us” and “Them”. We thrive on it! Whether it is politics, ethnicity, nationality or if we like to get up early or go to bed late, we are experts at finding ways to make “us” and “them” out of “we”.
Peter the Apostle was certainly in that frame of mind. His whole life had been dedicated – for religious reasons – to being part of the “us” that made them distinct and holy from the “thems” that surrounded them. Imagine Peter’s shock when, in the midst of a pre-lunch vision, God turned his formerly neat and tidy world absolutely upside down.
This Sunday, we will look at the story of Peter’s great vision that changed the way he – and the Christian faith – saw the question of who is in and who is out in the sermon “Giving Up on Us and Them”. Look at Acts 11:1-18, as well as Rev. 21:1-8.
