How many times have you heard that and about how many different sins? Hate the Sin and Love the Sinner. It’s like a mantra for some Christians, isn’t it?
Tonight, with Christians all over the world, we will go to church. We will hear about this last supper that Jesus will eat with his disciples and we, ourselves, will share in that supper.
This is likely our last week that will not start with the opportunity to attend corporate worship in a sanctuary with our sisters and brothers in Christ.
No more delay. No more waiting. No more wondering. The time is now and the moment is upon you.
Today is called “Spy Wednesday” in some churches because Judas Iscariot bargained with the religious authorities to “spy” on Jesus, making arrangements to betray him.
The Bible, as we have it, can seem dry, sometimes. The jokes go by us or the satire is likely to go right over our heads as well because we don’t share the culture and background. We can’t understand when someone is being snide or dismissive. However, if you know what to look for, jokes, jibes and slights are everywhere.
Even as Jesus realized the moral cataclysm that was to take his life was coming in a few short days, his response was not one of fear, panic or resignation. In fact, instead of finding somewhere to lay low, he showed up everyday at the Temple and taught there.
I wonder how we would react if the doctor walked into the exam room and gave us that news.
